Jo McCann provides clinicians with a trusted, flexible pathway to PoCUS competency and certification, helping them build the confidence and skills to deliver safe, effective, patient-centered care.

 

President of ASUM and valued member and volunteer for numerous ultrasound organisations around the world, Jo is also an engaging conference speaker - sharing her expertise, wisdom and tales from her PoCUS education experiences with audiences around the world.

Jo McCann is a dedicated senior sonographer based in Hamilton, Aotearoa (New Zealand), whose passion for ultrasound began during her early radiography training. Named New Zealand's 2024 Sonographer of the Year, Jo serves as a Clinical Lecturer for the PoCUS programme at the Dunedin School of Medicine, University of Otago and as the President of the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM). Jo also plays an active role in advancing PoCUS internationally as an Administrative Councillor for the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB), while maintaining memberships and volunteering with numerous ultrasound organisations around the world.

Named New Zealand’s 2024 Sonographer of the Year by the Australasian Sonographers Association (ASA).

Jo loves her work delivering critical ultrasound education to Pacific nations. As Programme Manager for RAD-AID, Jo is strengthening healthcare systems through culturally grounded, context-relevant training. Since beginning her teaching journey in 2011, Jo has become known for making ultrasound education more accessible and effective. Her approach blends technical precision with genuine empathy, empowering clinicians of all backgrounds to develop confidence in complex scanning techniques. Whether guiding medical students or experienced practitioners, Jo is committed to ensuring quality ultrasound skills reach even the most remote and underserved healthcare settings.
